How to Give to the Montpelier Foundation
Thank you for supporting the Montpelier Foundation!
The Montpelier Foundation accepts gifts, bequests, and donations of cash, properties, and securities, to support capital projects that provide long-term benefits in Montpelier.
Thank you for your tax-deductible contribution. The Montpelier Foundation is a agency of the City of Montpelier. Charitable contributions to governmental units are tax-deductible under section 170(c)(1) of the IRS code if made for a public purpose. Consult your tax professional for information. Contributions to the Foundation are administered by the Board of Trustees and held in a separate city account.
Gifts of Cash:
Gifts may be made by check and should be made to the Montpelier Foundation and sent to Montpelier Foundation, PO Box 364, Montpelier, VT 05601.
Gifts of Securities:
You may find that you can make a larger contribution by giving stock – particularly stock which has appreciated in value –than you could by giving cash. A gift of securities offers you a number of advantages. Your gift is the full market value of the securities, and you may deduct this amount from your taxable income for federal income tax purposes. Moreover, you will never have to pay capital-gains tax on the increased value of the securities, as you would if you sold them and donated cash. To make a gift of securities, please contact Todd Provencher, Finance Director for the City of Montpelier, at 802-262-6253.
A gift through your will or estate is the easiest gift you can make today, but there are many ways to support the Montpelier Foundation through planned giving. Please let us know if you have already included the Montpelier Foundation in your estate plan or if you are considering doing so, and we can discuss giving options with you.
