Being a health care agent (HCA) is an enormous responsibility. Yet, other than being told that having one is an important part of Advance Care Planning there are rarely opportunities to explore what it means to be a HCA. In this workshop we will cover what is expected of a HCA, how to prepare to be a HCA with the person who asks you, how to explain your role to other family and loved ones, and how to carry out what can be a very challenging role. During the course of this workshop you will learn what makes a good HCA and how to honestly assess both whether you can be an effective HCA and if you have chosen the right people to act as your HCAs. This workshop requires your participation, so come prepared with questions, concerns, and a willingness to engage. Led by Michelle Acciavatti, End of Life Specialist at Ending Well.
