[ARCHIVED] Snow Removal

The Public Works Department will be doing snow bank removal on the following streets beginning at 11 pm Wednesday, January 4, 2017 through 7:00 am on January 5, 2017.  Snow banks that accumulate along the edges of streets are periodically removed to allow for the proper drainage of streets and sidewalks and to restore convenient access to sidewalks from the parking aisles.  The process consists of various pieces of heavy equipment working in tandem to first pull the snow away from the curb with a road grader which is followed by a front loader equipped with a snow blower which discharges to a rolling fleet of trucks.  The snow is then disposed of in one of the City's snow dumps.

It is imperative that vehicles are not parked within the designated snow removal areas and signs will be posted throughout the planned removal areas.  The work will proceed approximately in the order noted below by street and whether all streets are cleared as listed will depend on the estimated production rate.

Main Street from Memorial to past the library

State Street from Main Street to Gov. Aiken.

Langdon Street, entire length

School Street, entire length

Elm Street from State Street to Spring Street

Court Street, entire length.

East State Street from Main Street to Hubbard Street, if time allows.

Posting of these streets will occur tomorrow (January 4th).  This is an aggressive schedule and completion is highly dependent on parked cars being absent.  A citywide parking ban will not be in effect.

Thank you for your cooperation.  We apologize for the inconveniences including parking impacts and noise disturbance during the night time.
