FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 20, 2017

Arrest for Aggravated Domestic Assault, Assault on Police Officer/Firefighter/EMT with Bodily Fluids, and Resisting Arrest

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 19, 2017, officers of the Montpelier Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance at a residence on Towne Hill Road. The caller reported an intoxicated family member had returned home, assaulted her, and was actively fighting with another family member. MPD officers responded to the residence and identified the assailant as Ryan J. Larson (age 20) of Montpelier.

Larson was in a highly intoxicated, agitated state, and officers quickly ended the altercation and attempted to restrain him. Larson continued to threaten officers and actively resist arrest. The Montpelier Ambulance Service responded to the residence to evaluate the badly injured family members. In the process of trying to remove Larson from the residence, he assaulted officers and ambulance staff with bodily fluids (saliva). With the assistance of Troopers from the Vermont State Police Middlesex Barracks, Larson was safely removed and transported to the Central Vermont Medical Center for evaluation

Larson was arraigned later the same day at Washington County Superior Court, Criminal Division. He was charged with Aggravated Domestic Assault, Assault on a Police Officer/Firefighter/EMT with Bodily Fluids, and Resisting Arrest. Larson was released on court ordered conditions of release.
