Traffic Delays and Road Closures

Governor’s Corporate Cup

 

On Thursday May 17, 2018, traffic in the vicinity of the State House, Bailey Avenue, Memorial Drive, Taylor Street, and Elm Street out to Pearl Street will be impacted by the Governor’s Corporate Cup 5 K road race. The race itself will begin promptly at 6:00 PM with the start/ finish line located on State Street in front of the State House.

The Following streets will be affected:

State Street (between Taylor St. and Bailey Ave.) will be closed from 5:30 PM until approximately 7:30 PM. State Street will also be closed temporarily at the start of the race from Elm Street to Taylor St.

Bailey Avenue: will experience a short closure at the start of the race, traffic will then be reduced to two lanes with cones and markings.

Memorial Drive: will have the westbound (outgoing lane) closed to traffic at the start of the race from Taylor Street to Bailey Avenue.

Taylor Street: will be closed once the race begins until the participants clear that street.

Gov. Davis Avenue: will be closed once the race begins.

Elm Street: will be closed from State St. to Spring St. once the race begins and for the duration of the race from School Street to Spring Street intersections.

Court Street: will be closed once the race begins

Winter Street, Summer Street, Pearl Street, Spring Street and Baldwin Streets: will all be effected by runners/ walkers along the race course in these areas.

Montpelier Police expect in excess of 4,000 race participants for this event. Police ask motorist to avoid these areas from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM if possible, and if traveling in these areas to use extra caution and watch for participants in the race and to expect delays and traffic control with law enforcement officers.
