IMPORTANT CHANGE IN DEADLINE! As you may have read, Councilmember Dan Richardson is stepping down as District 3 City Councilor following the August 25th City Council meeting, to take a new role as the Burlington City Attorney. We want to acknowledge all of his hard work and dedication, and thank Dan Richardson for his work on the City Council! He will be missed, and the City wishes him well in his new work journey!
Dan’s departure leaves a vacancy on Council however and City Council will be accepting letters of interest, application forms, and signed petitions for the vacant District 3 Council position through August 20, 2021.
The appointment will be made at a special City Council meeting on Wednesday September 1, 2021. As per Section 303 and 512 of the City Charter, the appointee will assume the seat at the close of that meeting through Town Meeting Day in March 2022 when the one year balance of the term will be filled by election. Candidates must reside in District 3. A map of voting districts can be found at https://www.montpelier-vt.org/DocumentCenter/View/233/City-of-Montpelier-Voting-Districts-PDF?bidId= Specific questions about voting districts can be directed to the City Clerk.
Applicants must submit a nomination petition signed by 25 or more registered voters from District 3. This petition should be turned in along with the other application materials.
Letters of interest and applications forms can be emailed to Mary Smith msmith@montpelier-vt.org. Petitions with original signatures must be dropped off or mailed. All materials must be received by the City Manager’s Office, 39 Main Street, Montpelier, Vermont 05602 by 12:00 PM (noon) on Friday, August 27, 2021
