The City Council will be accepting letters of interest, application forms, and signed petitions for the soon-to-be vacant District 2 Council position through December 15, 2022.
The appointment will be made at the December 21, 2022, Council meeting. As per Sections 303 and 512 of the City Charter, the appointee will assume the seat at the close of that meeting through Town Meeting Day in March 2023 when the one-year balance of the term will be filled by election.
Candidates must reside in District 2. View a map of voting districts. Specific questions about voting districts can be directed to the City Clerk.
Applicants must submit a nomination petition signed by 25 or more registered voters from District 2. This petition must be submitted along with the other application materials. Signatures will be verified as registered voters by the City Clerk. To apply, complete the online form.
Letters of interest and application forms can be emailed to Mary Smith. Petitions with original signatures must be dropped off or mailed. All materials must be received by the City Manager’s Office at 39 Main Street, Montpelier, Vermont 05602 by noon on Thursday, December 15, 2022.
