[ARCHIVED] Montpelier Experiencing Minor Flooding: City Asks Residents and Business Owners to Monitor Basements

With the heavy rain and ice jamming over the last 24 hours, Montpelier is experiencing flooding along the Winooski River. Currently this flooding is focused along lower State Street west of the Bailey Avenue Bridge.

The City is asking that residents and businesses with flood-prone basements in Montpelier take the necessary action immediately. Specifically, those properties on State, Elm, Langdon, and Main Streets should check their basements, remove items from the floor of the basements, and consider potential electrical issues associated with basement flooding.

The City will continue to monitor the situation closely and will share information with residents and businesses through the City’s website (www.montpelier-vt.org), Facebook page, and the VT Alert emergency notification system. If you haven’t already, please sign up for Montpelier-specific VT Alert messages at www.vtalert.gov.
